Track expertly edited down (because of Bandcamp limitations) from "GET YOUR HEAD DOWN WITH BURL IVES" [2012, Limited edition Brown Jewels CD-R BJ005, 500 copies]

"A matter-of-fact cautionary tale about the consequences of breaking rules that can’t be broken, and the death that rewards even those who follow the rules."

Helen Peck Ehrich was married to Burl Icle Ivanhoe Ives for 26 years. During their marriage she suffered from insomnia and rarely slept when Burl was away from home on tour. One of her favourite recordings by her husband was “Buckeye Jim”, but at only 91 seconds long, she tired of getting up to replace the needle to hear it again. She asked Burl if the technicians at the Harmony recording studio (where it was recorded) could make her a tape with the same track repeated over and over. They went one step further and performed a seamless edit and a perfect join over 40 times to create a mesmerising, trance inducing hour-long ‘mix-tape’ for Helen, which she played to “get her head down” (as she quaintly put it in her memoir/diary) to sleep. The tape was labelled “Magic Sleep Tape”.
